Professor Gong-Ru Lin Awarded Fellowship ofthe British IET

Professor Gong-Ru Lin teaches at the Institute of Photonics and Optoelectronics and the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University. Owing to his theory model and experiment techniques in optically injected mode-locked fiber laser and his continued research and contribution in using the laser light to produce pulse compression of solitons in less than 50 femtoseconds, the British IET (The Institution of Engineering and Technology) decided to award him the honorable title of FIET (Fellow of IET).

Over the last decade Professor Lin made innovative contributions to fiber laser, all optical communications, and nano silicon light-emitting devices. The light emitting metal oxide diodes which he developed from si-rich silicon containing dioxide film set a record for luminous power and quantum efficiency in devices developed by international research groups. IET originally had 150,000 members worldwide, and was originally called IEE (The Institution of Electrical Engineers), but starting from March, 2006, it was combined with IIE (The Institution of Incorporated Engineers) and changed its name to IET. So far among the universities and colleges in Taiwan there are about 30 fellows. Dr. Lin is also a fellow of APIE and a senior fellow of IEEE.
