President Si-Chen Lee paid a visit to the Washington University at San Louis in October, and delivered a lecture at the Global Energy Forum. Dr. Tung Shen, Director of the Office of International Affairs, also went to Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Washington University at San Louis to promote bilateral substantive co-operation.

Accompanied by Dr. Fa-lin Chen, CEO of the National Science and Technology Program in Energy, and Professor of the Institute of Applied Mechanics, President Si-Chen Lee participated in the Global Energy Forum held in the Washington University at San Louis on October 1 and delivered a speech. Energy experts and presidents from top universities of dozens of countries gathered at the Forum, discussing energy issues which ranged from regional energy source, energy and environment, nuclear energy, fossil energy, to bio energy, solar energy, and coal utilization.

At the same time, Dr. Tung Shen paid a visit to the John Fairbanks Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University and the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to talk about cooperation in Taiwan research, overseas education program and scholarship programs with Dr. Chia-Ling Mei, Director of the Institute of Taiwanese Literature. Later on, she convoked a seminar on the Taiwanese experience at Washington University, to which President Si-Chen Lee delivered a personal speech and she and Dr. Chia-Ling Mei delivered special-topic lectures. Scholars from both universities conducted exchanges and discussions that span across the borders of science and humanities, such as East-Asian studies, Taiwanese literature, history, biology, economics and law, deepening the substantive cooperation between the two universities through the exploration of multi-level issues.
