Hsieh receives the IIP for outstanding international Ph.D. inventors from Dr. Spague Roland of International American University
Hsieh is the youngest of this year’s IIP recipients.
National Taiwan University’s Yen-Ju Hsieh (謝炎儒) has become the youngest recipient of the International American University 2014 International Inventor Prize at the age of 30. Hsieh is currently a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Polymer Science and Engineering working under the guidance of Prof. Lee-Yih Wang (王立義).
The Taiwan International Invention Award Winners Association was established in 2005 for the recognition of innovators whose long-term research has been of significant contribution to the society. The association’s annual awarding event was officially re-entitled the International Inventors Prize in 2010. By inviting invention organizations, outstanding inventors, and personnel from the academia and private sectors from all across the world to participate, the association has since been dedicated to establishing IIP as an indicator of the highest honor for global innovation.
In particular, all entries of Hsieh’s awarding category (for outstanding international Ph.D. inventors) undergo a rigorous reviewing process in which the candidates’ patented inventions, publications, and their participation in and honors from international invention exhibitions and competitions are evaluated. In addition, candidates are also reviewed upon their contributions in promoting such ideas as stimulating creativity and innovation among the society, as well as the advancement of intellectual property rights and patent protection management. The selection process is conducted by a panel consisting of scholars, experts, lawyers, and professional personnel.
Prior to receiving the IIP, Hsieh has entered and won a multitude of innovation competitions in Taiwan and abroad, including winning the gold medal at the 2014 Taiwan Innovation Competition.
