President Chung-Ming Kuan (管中閔) met with NTU alumni from the Bay Area in a tea party at the invitation of NTU Alumni Association of Northern California on April 6. During the party, President Kuan gave a talk titled “NTU 2028, Our Determination” to report on the main tasks and achievements since he took office at the beginning of the year and to share his principles and beliefs in governing NTU.
In his talk, President Kuan mentioned the issue of brain drain in NTU and proposed to establish a teacher evaluation system that respects diversity as well as a reward system for teachers. The traditional teacher evaluation method solely focused on academic output; therefore, President Kuan hopes the evaluation system can be redesigned and to scale up the implementation of merit pay policy for teachers in the future. President Kuan also pointed out that NTU always takes defensive measures against brain drain, which is not enough for retaining talents. Therefore, President Kuan proposed the BOTH (Bring Our Talents Home) plan and would put forward new measures in one or two months for attracting talents back to NTU.
The NTU members who joined President Kuan in this event included Pei-Cheng Liao (廖佩真), Vice President for Financial Affairs, Prof. J. Chris Lin (林俊昇), Deputy Vice President for International Affairs, and Ning Liu (劉寧), the NTU Alumni Center CEO. The NTU members also introduced the NTU Hope Scholarship for Outgoing Exchange Student with the fundraising goal of NTD 100 million (approximately USD 3 million).
