The self- study area section D, located in the basement first floor of the Central Library, will formally reveal its new "Open Learning Space" on October 20. The inauguration ceremony will be conducted jointly by NTU president Lee Si-Chen, dean of Academic Affairs Chiang Been-Huang, and Director of Center for Teaching and Learning Development Jiang Yi-Huah.

Borrowing from the "Learning Commons" concept seen in campuses overseas, the Open Learning Space opens an area where users can conduct quiet discussions freely in the midst of the traditional quiet reading and self-study usage modes of a library. This type of space is also called a "noisy corner" to distinguish it from the typical "Quiet Corner" where silence is premium.

The space is developed jointly by the Center for Teaching and Learning Development and the library while implemented primarily by the learning enabling group of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development. The space is divided into 4 areas. The self-study area is for individuals to conduct individual studies. The conference room is for group deliberations and related activities. The projection area is available for artists and creators to display their original creations. Finally the lounge area is perfect for reading, internet based research, or small discussion groups. All faculty and students are welcome to this easy and comfortable studying section!

Monday thru Friday: 8:30 a.m—22:20 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays: 10:00 a.m.—16:50 p.m.
