USC Marshall Business School Elites Faced Off With NTU Management College’s Best Students in Case Study Competition—Resulting in Enhancement of International Competency

In an effort to promote international development, and provide students with new learning experiences, NTU’s College of Management invited elite students from the famous Marshall School of Business of University of Southern California to participate in a “Case Study” competition against the cream of the crop of their own. The event was waged on March 12th, and conducted in the English language throughout. After a series of climactic moments, two student groups shared the first prize.

Professor Tang Ming-je of the International Business Department of NTU and Dr. Michael Coombs of USC served as judges for the “Case Study” competition. USC sent 36 students to participate in the competition, and NTU sent 26. All the contestants received case study materials two days before the event, and held panel discussions on site. The professors particularly chose a case in which high-echelon administrators switched jobs en masse, to see how students from different cultural perspectives would solve the problem.

Vice Dean of the College of Management Professor Seng-cho T. Chou said: “The school’s responsibility is to foster students’ professionalism in study and research. More importantly, it encourages students to broader their vision, and to keep in touch with the world, as internationalization is the best way to reap rewards on their investments, and to have more competency and choices in their continued studies and employment.” Encouraging students to actively participate in international activities has been the core policy of the College of Management. As of now, the College has signed exchange programs and academic cooperation agreements with 13 internationally famous universities, such as UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, Keio University’s graduate school of Commerce, Waseda University, Etc., with the purpose of providing international experience for its students.
