The Graduate Institute of Journalism, the Center for Teaching and Learning Development of the Division of Academic Affairs, and the Multimedia Center of NTU have collaborated to produce a live course in internet journalism, and invite Mr. Chan Hung-Chih, known as the “Ohmae Kenichi of Taiwan”, to start a course on “actual practices in internet communications.” The course aims to teach students to understand the actual applications of the internet in communications, and to analyze in depth the nature of the cyber medium. Students who take the course will have opportunities to seek advice from the virtuoso teacher, and will be able to set up their own blogs, to send out their electronic news, and to learn the knacks and techniques of running an internet business.

Owing to the abundant requests for attending the course, the Center for Teaching and Learning Development of the Division of Academic Affairs and the Multimedia Center decided to provide equipment and technical support to do an EFP (Electronic Field Production) of the teaching process, so that the contents of the course can be broadcasted live. Students who select the course will be assigned the roles of Program Director, Assistant Director, and Cameraman, etc., to do the EFP, and the teaching process will be recreated in its entirety when viewed by the audience.

Because the EFP system is equipped with a professional mixer and a highly sensitive microphone, it can record the required sounds on different tracks, thus avoiding the problem of excessive din which often happens when using a single DV camera. As a result, the voices in the classroom can be effectively reproduced, and high quality pictures and sounds can be transmitted.

In order to put the functions of EFP to better use, the Graduate Institute of Journalism decided to use professional equipment to do a live recording of an internet course. This is something that has never been done before. Hence, everyone is welcome to watch the program which is broadcasted live every Friday from 10:20 to 12:10, by logging onto http://speech.ntu.edu.to/user/live/php.
