Trend Micro's Chief Cultural Officer Miss Jenny Chen Donates U.S. 1 Million to NTU to Establish a Literary Symposium on Novelist Kenneth Pai

To contribute to her alma mater, and to show respect for distinguished novelist Kenneth Pai (graduated from Department of Foreign Languages and Literature in 1961), Chief Cultural Officer of Trend Micro Technology Miss Jenny Chen (graduated from the Department of Chinese in 1979) specifically donates U.S. 1 million to NTU to establish a literary symposium on novelist Kenneth Pai. She hopes that her donation will enhance the academic standards and international reputation of the College of Liberal Arts, and thereby benefit her younger siblings.

Accompanied by Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Kuo-liang Yeh, and Director of the Institute of Taiwan History, Mr. Ching-min Ko, Miss Jenny Chen and novelist Kenneth Pai went to see President Si-chen Lee on October 19th in the President's Office, where they signed the donation agreement. Miss Jenny Chen pledged to donate U.S. 200,000 every academic year for the purpose of establishing a literary symposium on Kenneth Pai. The donation is good for five years for a total amount of U.S. 1 million. The symposium will commence in the fall semester of 2008, domestic and international scholars will be invited to attend, and it will be open to the public. In addition, important foreign literary scholars or writers will be invited to serve as visiting professors at NTU or as writers-in-residence.
