Graduate School of Business Administration Second Year Student Yi-shuan Leeand Li-Ming Chen cooperated with Tsinghua University Team and Won the 2nd Prize in the National "Dragon Leap Smile Curve Treatise Competition"

The award presentation ceremony for the 2nd "Dragon Leap Smile Curve Treatise Competition" was held on September 27th. NTU Graduate Institute of Business Administration second year student Yi-shuan Lee and Li-ming Chen collaborated with the Tsinghua University team led by Professor Chi-liang Yeh and focused their treatise on the research and development of liquid zoom lens. The Competition was co-sponsored by the Acer Foundation and the China Times Cultural and Educational Foundation. When the results were announced, the NTU/Tsinghua University team won the second prize and N.T. 1 million dollars. The first prize fell void.

Miss Chen, one of NTU's winners, said that their team based their start-up plan on the unrivalled liquid zoon lens technology developed by Tsinghua University. Their plan started with market analysis, operation, marketing strategy planning, all the way to a comprehensive five-year financial forecast. During the final briefing, they had to present the business concept in whole within a 15 minute time span, so that they could attract the investors' attention. In addition, they had to do a live demonstration of the product's usefulness to prove that they were not just theorizing idly. When confronted with the judges' questions, their stage manners and their interactive ability were put to severe test. That they won the 2nd prize in the end was a very special honor for them, but it also reminded them that they still had room for progress.

The subjects of the two teams that won the 2nd prize all dwelt on the R&D of liquid zoom lens, whereas the 1st prize fell void. Regarding this, Miss Chen said that the research of liquid zoom lens had just started in Taiwan, as far as investors were concerned there were too much risk involved, and their products needed to be proven worthy before they could be mass produced. Therefore, the judges unanimously decided to award the two similar teams the 2nd prize as a gesture of encouragement. Altogether 165 teams participated in this national contest. After a whole year's long competition, 15 teams entered the finals. The panel of judges screened the finalists very strictly, finally the winning teams came to the fore.
