The Teaching and Learning Development Center of the Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs held a "End of Term Tea Party for New Faculty Members" on the last day of the final exams at the basement of the Main Library, inviting several senior members of the faculty to share their experiences and suggestions on topics of common concern. These topics include "Interacting with students under your guidance," "Balance among Teaching, Research, and Service," "Cross-boundary Research," and "Tips and preparation for promotion." In addition, several faculty members in their first few years' service were also invited to share their personal experiences at NTU as "newcomers of the past." After the tea party, coffees, cookies and open space were made available to the rookies so that they could have a chance for private interaction after a busy academic term.

In his speech, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Been-huang Chiang emphasized that, the new faculty members were the hope of NTU. According to past statistics, every year approximately fifty to sixty senior professors retire at NTU. This year, over sixty new members joined the NTU family. Dr. Chiang said that NTU has been very scrupulous in selecting new faculty. The aim was to select the best talents and give them all kinds of support and guidance, so that the new members could perform well in teaching and research. The "flying geese" program which was put into effect during the past few years was modeled after the practice in universities abroad. The purpose of the program, according to Dr. Chiang, was to establish a system wherein senior professors could serve as pilots, leading the new faculty members to continuously progress forward in their academic careers.
