National Electrical Appliance Co. Ltd., Donates the Funding for "C. C. Hong Memorial Lecture Hall" and "C. C. Hong Memorial Lecture Series" to NTU

In order to fulfill his late father's lifelong aspirations, Mr. Min-Houng Hong, an alumnus of the Department of Electrical Engineering, decided to exemplify the social responsibility of an accomplished industrialist by donating large sums of funding to NTU to benefit the in-school students. Mr. C. C. Hong, founder of Taiwan National Electrical Appliance Co. Ltd., passed away over twenty years ago. A cultural foundation named after him was set up to serve the society. As Mr. C. C. Hong's legal heir, Mr. Min –Houng Hong decided to appoint his sister-in-law, Mrs. Celia Hong, who is the Chairman of the the C.C. Hong Cultural Foundation, as a representative of the National Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd. to donate funding to NTU's Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences in several allotments.

The hardware part of this donation includes: the building proper of a selected lecture hall, its decoration, its internal hardware equipment and its design , totaling N.T. 20 million. After its completion, the lecture hall will be named "C.C. Hong Memorial Lecture Hall" to commemorate the late Mr. C. C. Hong.

Mrs. Celia Hong is an alumnus of the Department of History. To show her appreciation for her alma mater's accomplishments in humanistic studies, its spirit of liberty and mutual respect, and its pluralistic innovation and vista of vitality, she generously promised to donate N.T. 2 million every year from 2008 to 2012, a grand sum of N.T. 10 million, to the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences as the necessary funding for inviting visiting scholars and other academic activities. This donation is on top of the 20 million donation already made to the lecture hall. When put into effect, the lecture series will be named "C.C. Hong Memorial Lecture Series of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences."
