The European Law Students Association (ELSA) organizes a global WTO moot court competition every year in springtime, inviting teams from reputable universities worldwide to participate.

This competition has become a very important international activity for law students, as it is instrumental in upgrading the language skills, expressive techniques, international etiquette, knowledge of international law and international economy and trade of the participants and establishing a network of international contact for the law students and enhancing their international outlook. Furthermore, as the competition was widely covered by international media, becoming a finalist in the competition is conducive to promoting the image and reputation of the universities whose teams make to the finals. In addition, the winners of the regional competitions are eligible for participation in the global competition, and hosting such an important competition is very helpful towards promoting the international prestige of NTU, as not only can the participants gain precious experience, but the students who are involved in the preparatory work improve their skills in hosting international activities.

Starting from 2005, on the strength of ELSA's Asia Pacific Academic Supervisor Letizia Raschella-Sergi's recommendation, NTU's WTO Center has cooperated with ELSA to host the Asia Pacific Regional Competition in NTU for three consecutive years. Professor Chang-Fa Law of the Department of Law of NTU has served as the Regional Round Administrator for this competition. This year's competition was held from March 5^th to 8^th in NTU's GIS International Convention Center. The case author for this year's competition, Professor Shin-yi Peng, was invited to give a lecture on ‘Judicial Activism and Restraint at the WTO” on March 7^th at the Conventional Center, attracting a very responsive crowd. NTU's team performed outstandingly well in this year's Asia Regional moot court competition, as evidenced by its being the runner up, and winning the best plaintiff written pleading award and the overall written pleading award. The NTU team will join the Hong Kong University team, representing Asia to participate in ELSA's global moot court competition which will be held in Geneva from April 29^th to MAY 5^th.
