On April 18^th, Chairman of Taiwan's Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (FICHET), Dr. Si-chen Lee, who is also president of the prestigious National Taiwan University, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Director of International Affairs of Japan's Consortium of Universities in Osaka (CUOSA)，DR. Teiichi Kawata (who is also the president of Japan's Kansai University), in the second conference room of NTU. It is expected that this agreement will open up new initiatives for cooperation between Taiwan and Japan's higher education, and further implement the globalization goal of Taiwan's higher education and academic research.

With the joint efforts of FICHET and CUOSA, Taiwan and Japan signed an agreement for exchanging of higher education. The agreement provides concrete strategies for bilateral co-research projects, exchange programs for students, and mutual visits of educational personnel. Eighty tertiary educations in Taiwan and forty-six in Japan are led by FCHET and CUOSA to sign the agreement, under which both sides can commence academic exchanges in the future. Following FICHET's agreement with the Austrian Exchange Service, its agreement with CUOSA is another important agreement for academic exchange with a foreign educational institution.
