The International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) of Taiwan collaborated with NTU's Department of Geography by sending out a voluntary research and inquiry team to two South Pacific Nations - Kiribati and Tuvalu to conduct field inquiry and research. On November 19th from 16:30 p.m. to 18:30 p.m., in the International Conference Room in the basement of the Main Library, the Department of Geography held a presentation to publicize the achievements of the "SPIRIT" (South Pacific Islands Research and Inquiry Team).

With the support from the overseas volunteer service project of ICDF, the faculty and students of the Department of Geography formed the SPIRIT volunteer group, which went to Kiribati and Tuvalu, two island nations which have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, in August and September of this year. The volunteer group spent a month in these two South Pacific island nations where they did extensive environmental research. The presentation, which included speeches by honored guests, introduction of the region, profiles of the team members and summaries of their achievements, was held to display the gist of their work. Through this presentation, it was hoped that the audience could obtain a deeper understanding of the relevant data of these two island nations (with which most people are still unfamiliar), and the assiduous efforts performed by Taiwan's foreign assistance teams on the diplomatic front.
