NTU Systems on Chips Center
Where New Chips Are Made

The NTU Systems on Chips Center was founded in 2001 to enhance the competitive power of the Taiwan electronics industry. Integrating the student/faculty teams that have strength in electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications, optoelectronics, information engineering, net media and biomedical electronics, the Systems on Chips Center has globally unrivalled achievements in integrated circuit design, telecommunications, EDA embedded softwares, and nono biomedical research. From the very beginning, the Center's goal was to foster the elites of the Taiwan high technology and to help the domestic industry to upgrade. Emphasizing innovative research and practical applications, the Center's inventions in recent years often resulted in the shock of the Taiwan society. For instance, the "ultra high speed wireless communication chip" developed by Dr. Jri Lee, claimed to be able to download a 4-G film in just 10 seconds, and is by far the smallest, lowest priced, communication chip in the world today that uses the least power consumption.

At the same time, the electronic information transmission system developed by Dr. Shey-Shi Lu successfully realized the plot of the film "Extraterrestrials", i.e., so long as one is equipped with a chip device somewhere near his body, he can communicate with others through a finger touch. Meanwhile, Dr. Lu's research team invented the "implantable CMOS single chip" which integrated medicine and electronic technology into one, and by use of integrated wireless control, drive circuit and the drug delivery array can be implanted into the human body through minimally invasive surgery. It can be said to be a great boon for the aging society of ours.

For five consecutive years the Systems on Chips Center has remained the single Institute that has the greatest number of papers published in the ISSCC (the so-called Olympiad of the chips industry) and NTU remains the University that has the greatest number of papers published. The various research achievements of the Center are now undergoing cooperation with the industry, and pretty soon the general public will be able to enjoy the results that high technology brings. In essence, the NTU Systems on Chips Center is playing the role of the pioneer in Taiwan's industry, and will soon create the more competitive future for Taiwan's electronic industry.
