Greetings, all NTU faculty, staff, and students,

Concerning the epidemic of H7N9 influenza in Mainland China, Taiwan Government listed “H7N9 influenza” as Category V Notifiable Infectious Disease. The first imported human infection with H7N9 influenza was also confirmed in Taiwan. The NTU H7N9 Influenza Response Team appeals to the attention of all NTU faculty, staff, and students on the following:

1. Travelers visiting Mainland China should take preventive measures such as avoiding direct contact with poultry and birds or their droppings, consuming only thoroughly cooked poultry and eggs, and washing hands frequently. If symptoms such as fever or influenza-like illness develop after returning to Taiwan, please put on a surgical mask and seek immediate medical attention. Moreover, please inform the physician of the recent travel history to facilitate diagnosis and treatment.
2. The first meeting of NTU H7N9 Influenza Response Team was held on April 30, 2013. The meeting appealed to the attention of all NTU faculty, staff, and students for influenza prevention. The H7N9 official website (http://www.h7n9.ntu.edu.tw/) is also launched to be a formal platform for disease reporting and latest information.
3. All NTU faculty, staff, and students should make a report to your department before going to H7N9 epidemic area. Your department will make a report of your travel on the H7N9 official website.
4. Please fill in the "NTU Survey Form for H7N9 Influenza Prevention" and "NTU H7N9 influenza Self-management Health Chart" (both are downloadable on the H7N9 official website) after coming back from Mainland China, and hand in the Survey Form to your department. This policy applies to all NTU faculty, staff, and students as well as all visitors from Mainland China (including students, parents, professors, scholars, visiting groups, and guests). Please take your temperature twice a day and pay attention to your health condition within 10 days after travelling back from Mainland China.
5. Please contact your department if symptoms of common cold or fever develop within the follow-up period of 10 days. Your department will make a report to the NTU Health Center by internet, telephone, or E-mail. Further follow-up of your health condition will be conducted by the NTU Health Center.
6. Depending on the spread of the H7N9 epidemic, latest news will be updated on the H7N9 official website. You can also download H7N9 educational material (published by the Center for Disease Control, Taiwan) and Guidelines for Disinfection. The H7N9 official website welcomes your frequent visiting.
