    Another magnificent event of the anniversary celebration was the commendation of NTU"s outstanding alumni. The six recipients of the "Outstanding Alumni Award" were: Academics: (three winners): Mr. Shih Min (graduated from Department of Electrical Engineering in 1957), Mr. Lee Lou-Chuang ( Department of Physics in 1969), Mr. Yao Meng-Chao (Department of Zoology in 1971), Industry and Commerce: (two winners): Mr. Barry Lin (Department of Electrical Engineering in 1970), and Mr Li Kun-yao (李錕耀,Department of Electrical Engineering in 1974), and Social Services: (one winner): Mr. Hsu Wen-zheng (許文政,Department of Medicine in 1949). All six winners received public commendations during the school anniversary celebration, and are invited to give lectures at the University"s general education forum, focusing on the given topic--"My Studying and Thinking Process. " The purpose of these lectures is to allow the winners an opportunity to share their struggles and their success stories in their respective areas of specialization with the enrolled students at NTU.

    President Li also wholeheartedly looks forward to a bright new future for NTU, expecting more young talents to emerge, winning honorary doctorates from NTU and becoming outstanding alumni like the eight seniors who were honored on this anniversary. President Li emphasized in the celebration ceremony that "Respect and Preservation of Our Cultural Tradition" and "Expansion and Innovation of the Scope of Knowledge" are the two guiding principles in NTU"s pursuit of excellence, and prerequisites for NTU becoming one of the top notch universities of the world. He urged the students to cherish culture, and blend culture into all areas of specialization, thereby elevating professionalism to a new height.

In his closing speech, President Li Si-chen said "The 61st year represents a new beginning. The trailblazing efforts of our predecessors have culminated in the driving force of NTU today. We are now ready to dash forward toward reaching the goal of becoming one of the top 100 universities in the world, with sixty years" accumulated experiences at our backs. "
