Professor Jinn-Yuh Hsu's expertise lies in the study of regional development in high-tech areas and less developed countries, especially dealing with the process of restructuring of the social space in the wake of globalization and technological changes. Aside from doing research and teaching. Professor Jinn-Yuh Hsu also serves on the executive committee of ICGG (International Critical Geography Group),exerting his influence in the international academic community. Professor Hsiao-Wen Chung's major research area is the development of medical magnetic resonance imaging technology, focusing on the central nervous system as the axis of application. In addition to his outstanding achievements in research, Professor Chung is also widely acknowledged for his contributions in teaching, for which he won the NTU Award in Excellence in Teaching in 2005.
Professor Jiang-Jen Lin research areas lean toward polymer synthesis, functional polymers, nano-materials and interface scattering techniques. Topics he is working on include:the organic modification of clay, intercalation/delamination response mechanisms, and the research and application of nano-silicon chips. Professor Chi-chun Liu expertise lie in the research of capital market, financial accounting, banking accounting, etc. He is also recognized for his achievements in teaching, having also won the Award in Excellence in Teaching.
Professor Chung-Chih Wu expertise has to do with the study of efficient and innovative organic optoelectronic semiconductors and components, including organic light-emitting diodes, organic photosensitive components, organic solar cells, etc. His research scope covers two dimensions: application and fundament material study, the former include organic light-emitting displays, organic optoelectronic integrated circuits, whereas the latter has to with opto-electronic materials and semiconductors . Professor Wu's outstanding performance won him the honor of being elected by Central News Agency as one of "Taiwan's 10 characters with the greatest potentials of the year 2005."
Professor Ming-Shyan Wu research area focuses on gastrointestinal medicine, and is known as an expert in gastrointestinal tumor and H. pylori bacillus. In addition, Professor Wu gained academic recognition by winning the Wu Ta You Memorial Award from the National Science Council with his research in "the rebirth mechanism of blood vessel in gastric cancer: interleukin-6 and the role of vascular edothelial growth factor and interaction". Associate Professor Wei-shiung Yang expertise lies in endocrine, metabolism, and the treatment of diabetes. Aside from achieving outstanding performance in research and clinical medicine, Professor Yang also devoted himself to teaching, and was awarded the double honor of being an excellent and an outstanding teacher.
Of all the recipients of National Science Council's Outstanding Research
Awards, five of them were females, and two of them were from NTU. This is an indication of
the trend of increased employment of female faculty within NTU. Center of Condensed Materials
Science researcher Li-Chyong CHEN's expertise lies in the area of advanced materials and nanotechnology.
Her many honors include Type A research stipend from the National Science Council (1998), 2nd Place
in Taiwan Material Science Society's Essay Award (1998), Academia Sinica's "Young Author's Award"
(2000), etc. Through her outstanding performance, researcher Li-Chyong CHEN was able to become the
first Asian female editor of the internationally renowned periodical "American Journal of Vacuum
Science and Technology" whose editorial team was previously dominated by male scholars from Europe
and the U.S.
