NTU's 2006 Review of Student Associations Came to a Smooth Ending!
The Village Service Society and the Kendo Club Won Awards of Excellence, and Will Represent NTU in the National Collegiate Student Association Evaluation

   Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Joyce Yen Feng presided over the opening ceremony. She used the acronym of NTU members, i.e., "TAIDA", which stands for teamwork, accountability, integrity, diligence, and ambition, as a motto and urged the student associations to forge ahead toward excellence.

  National Taiwan University has the largest number of student associations in all the universities of Taiwan. Abundant and vibrant extracurricular activities has long since become a special feature of NTU's campus life that is well known both at home and abroad.

  In order to pursue sustained development for the student associations, letting different associations learn from one another, and promoting better systemization, organization, fiscal management, and event planning while assisting the associations to keep record of their activities, the school administration launched its first review of student associations in 2002. With the enthusiastic participation of the student associations, the review has been continued every year since then.

  The results of the review were announced officially at 4:30 in the afternoon, and President Si-chen Li officiated at the closing ceremony. In addition to conferring the award of excellence, the President also photo sessions with the participating associations. At the closing ceremony, the chairman of the review committee also announced that the winner of this year's award of excellence, namely the Village Service Society and the Kendo Club would represent NTU to join the National Collegiate Student Association Evaluation.

  This year's review also added a new category of award called "Best Decoration", and the student associations themselves had to select the winner. At the day of the review, each association was vying to win this new award, bringing the event to a new height.

  Besides faculty members from NTU, this year's review committee also invited five experts who had copious experiences in running student associations to serve as judges. They are, respectively, Dean of student affars Mr. Zhuang Ching-dah of Taiwan Ocean University, Dean of Student Affairs Mr.Jan Zhao-neng of Shih-hsin University, Director of Extracurricular Activities Mr. Lin Zhih-shan of Soochow University, Director of Extracurricular Activities Miss Lang Mei-hua of National Chengchi University, and Deputy Director of Extracurricular Activities Miss Tsai Shu-feng of Yang Ming University,. After an internal selection process, Mr. Zhuang Ching-dah was voted to become the chairman of the review committee.

  Altogether 90 student associations participated in this year's review, and seven of them (The Philosophical Thinking Workship, the World Ethnic Dance Club, The Martial Arts Club, the Fishermen Village Service Club, the Taichung Area Alumni Association, the Brass Band and The Folk Dancing Club) won the award of excellence last year and were appointed as exemplary units at the exhibitions. The 10 winners of this year's review will be invited to parade their exhibition booths In the study camp for the leaders of student associations which was to be held later this year. In addition, in order to encourage the autonomous management of student associations, in next year's review a new category of "autonomous student association" will be added among the entrants. The administration is in the process of planning this new provision.
