NTU has invested heavily to develop its extensive network of web sites in order to promote learning and share information, and these efforts continue to receive global recognition. The most recent Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, released in July, ranked NTU 70th worldwide and second in Asia for overall web performance.

NTU's position in this ranking has climbed steadily over the last three years. The university was ranked 170th worldwide and fifth in Asia in January 2006. However, it has placed within the top-100 globally since July 2007 and, in Asia, it has been second only to the University of Tokyo since July 2007.

The Webometrics Rankings have been conducted twice every year since 2004 by the Center for Scientific Information and Documentation of the Spanish National Research Council in Madrid and are intended primarily to promote electronic access to scientific publications and other academic materials.
