Operating the Research Participants by the Research Ethics Office of National Taiwan University Associated with the North Taiwan Alliance

National Taiwan University has been promoting the evolving recognition of ethical principles in human research projects with the support from the National Science Council to establish a research institute in order to constitute a total solution for the ethical principles in universities to prompt the corporation among Northern universities and educational institutes in Taiwan. Thus, the North Taiwan Alliance has just been established to reach the decision of protecting their research participants.

In the year of 2009, the eighth National Science and Technology Conference encourages universities in Taiwan to establish the council of ethical research. According to that, The National Science council has been promoting the research plan of the research of human behaviors and human ethics associated with the three prominent universities in Northern, Central and Southern Taiwan. The research plan was set for a hope of establishing and promoting the censorship of ethical research to bring up the issue of human rights to the public and to elevate the international awareness among universities in Taiwan. Moreover, they expect to make sure the eternal development of academic performance in Taiwan based on this ethical research. With the financial support from the National Science Council, National Taiwan University has been promoting the research plan of the research of human behaviors and human ethics to constitute a total solution for a complete institute of ethical research to prompt the corporation among universities and educational institutes in Northern Taiwan. Additionally, the North Taiwan Alliance is thus formed to reach the recognition of protecting their research participants.

The regulations for protecting the research participants have just been past in May 2011. Therefore, the Ethics Office of National Taiwan University was thus formed and the council for the censorship of ethical research was organized too. They’ve been well functioned and operating ever since August 2011.

National Taiwan University will be able to provide the consulting services and their practical experiences by using the research plan of the research of human behaviors and human ethics. Also, they’ll be sharing the conducting experiences of the councils and assisting the censorship for the research plans. Ever since the plan began, there have been over 28 universities and educational institutes and organizations signing the contract for the corporation of the North Taiwan Alliance.

National Taiwan University just held the opening ceremony for the research participants organized by the NTU Research Ethics Office associated with the North Taiwan Alliance. Their goal is to protect the research participants and to promote the censorship for the ethical principles based on the academic development to promote the social responsibility for a better society. The ceremony was launched by NTU President Lee, Vice President Lo, Vice President Bau, Dean Feng, Executive Chen of the Office of Research and Development, Executive Ho of the NTU Research Ethics Office. Guests were invited from NTU administration, departments, 27 NTU alliances, and the HRPP Office of the National Science Council.

During the teatime gathering after the opening ceremony, all the participants had a discussion on the importance of protecting their research participants and shared the past experiences to extend their discussion. What they’ve been doing made the opening ceremony complete and successful. Also, they hope to promote the censorship of the ethical principles to the public in order to fulfill the responsibility of protecting the research participants well and to make their academic research reliable, thus to develop an academic environment full of respect and courtesy.
