Wang Jung Cheng, from the NTU Department of Bio- Industry Communication and Development, is going to compete the 200-meter butterfly swimming in women’s group in the 2012 London Olympics for Taiwan.

The NTU student, Wang Jung Cheng, from the Department of Bio- Industry Communication and Development is going to compete the 200-meter butterfly swimming in women’s group in the 2012 London Olympics for Taiwan. Following the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, this is going to be the third time that Cheng completes for the sportsmanship of Taiwan.

Wang Jung Cheng has been showing her great talents and outstanding performances swimming ever since her freshman year in National Taiwan University. To be noted, in the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games she won the gold medal of swimming in women’s group by setting the new scores: 40 minutes and 21 seconds, and thus she broke the national record, which had lasted for 16 years. Furthermore, in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, Cheng won the bronze medal, showing her consistent efforts and great performance in this area. This bronze medal meant a lot to Taiwan back in the year of 2010 since this was finally the second medal Taiwan won in swimming after the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games twelve years ago. What Wang Jung Cheng has already achieved and accomplished in the area of swimming proved that NTU students can absolutely strike the balance between the academic performance and also being the great athletes. It shows that NTU students can definitely do both and do an extraordinary performance to exceed to the path of elite.

The NTU swimming team has been the focus at campus with the support from NTU President Si-Chen Lee ever since 2008. The two ultimate goals of the NTU swimming team include “Train and develop swimmers to go for the international sports games such as Asian Games and the Olympics.” and “ Set the new record in the national history for Taiwan’s teams.” What Wang Jung Cheng has achieved in this area inspired the NTU school team a lot by showing them the great performances winning the medals in the international sports games. And we definitely believe that the NTU swimming team will absolutely perform even better and keep up the good record. In the near future, National Taiwan University plans to prompt the international exchange program for the NTU swimming team in hopes that we can see more great swimmers attending the international games to promote and honor Taiwan.
