In this year’s World Reputation Rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE) on March 5, 2014, NTU again entered the list among the world’s top 51-60. The results are exemplary of our continual efforts made to becoming an internationally reputed top-ranking university.
THE’s 2014 World Reputation Rankings of the world’s 100 most prestigious universities is based on an invitation-only academic opinion survey of distinguished scholars and academics with an average of 18 years of expertise. This year’s questionnaire was distributed among 10,536 senior academics from 133 countries between March 21 and May 21, 2013.
A balanced spread of responses across various disciplines and countries were collected, and the distribution of the respondents was verified according to statistics from UNESCO’s “Global Perspective on Research & Development.” To ensure the statistical validity of the survey, no volunteers or nominations from institutions were accepted. The reputation rankings were created according to the respondents’ experiences so that an overall view of the global academic environment could be created.
With the continual support the Ministry of Education’s “Top University” project, NTU has been able to promote innovative research, establish interdisciplinary research centers with international partners, while also encouraging our faculty to take part in major academic projects both within Taiwan and around the globe. Our establishment of cutting-edge international research centers, including the Intel-NTU Connected Context Computing Center, the International Center of Excellence in Cancer Research, and the International Center of Excellence on Intelligent Robotics and Automation Research, is combined with our academic research and development resources to further open opportunities to collaborate with world-class talent. In addition, our international visibility as well as competitiveness is enhanced through extensive exchange as well as collaborative research with top-ranking overseas universities.
In the future, we will continue to strive to enhance the quality of our education, academic achievements, as well as international competitiveness. We shall also persist in the promotion of international courses and the OpenCourseWare project. As NTU seeks more chances for international cooperation and exchange, we shall continue to work towards becoming a key figure in the academia.
