NTU wins “Outstanding Site” for 2014 Awards for OpenCourseWare Excellence

National Taiwan University is dedicated to promoting quality online education, and our efforts have once again received international acclaim as we have been listed as one of this year’s winners of the 2014 Site and Course Awards for OpenCourseWare Excellence (ACE). NTU’s OpenCourseWare website was elected “Outstanding Site” along with Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia and Delft University of Technology

NTU’s OpenCourseWare program was established in 2010 and has so far opened up to 134 courses. The program includes a core curriculum (required courses), featured courses (elective courses), classics, and a wide selection of popular courses. The site receives a monthly average of up to 130,000 visitors, with the majority of the demographic distributed among Chinese-speaking communities in locations such as Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.

Our most sought after courses include Sociology of Love, Calculus, Introduction to Phonetics, Globalization: Challenge and Response, Red Chamber Dreams, and Organic Chemistry. Ranging from political science, arts and literature, to science and technology, NTU’s OCW covers a wide array of topics across the disciplines. This is not only a demonstration of our soft power in terms of education and research; it is also exemplary of NTU’s accomplishments in promoting a comprehensive education.

The annual ACE Awards is organized by the OpenCourseWare Consortium, and the awarding committee includes educators and open education advocates from around the world. The list of winners was announced on April 14, and the awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place in Slovenia on April 24, 2014.
