The 2007 Teacher's Day Celebration Tea party was held on September 28th at 10 a.m. in the first Conference Room of NTU. President Si-chen Leei was respectfully invited to preside over the award-giving ceremony. Many awards, including NTU chair professorships, the Outstanding Research Achievement Awards, Certificates for Professor Emeritus, etc., were conferred upon the proper recipients. This year's Teacher's Day marks the first time that "The Outstanding Social Service Award for Teachers" and "The Outstanding In-school Service Award for Teachers" were given to faculty members to highlight their passion and contribution and to give them encouragement.

The winners of this year's "Outstanding Social Services Award" are the "NTU Legal Services Society" and a social service team whose mission was to "protect under-privileged children and family welfare." NTU's Legal Service society was established in November 1979. Over the past 28 years, The Legal Service Society provided free legal consultation to the needy people every Saturday afternoon without interruption (with the exception of winter and summer vacations). By 2006, The Society has undertaken 27547 cases of legal services that involve that welfare of ordinary citizens. Professor Lian-gong Chiou dedicates himself to the task of providing free legal services to the needy people. He and his team, composed of faculty and students from NTU's School of Law, have rendered services to tens of thousands of people. Their trailblazing act has now evolved into a national law, as the government has passed the "legal aid act," and set up a "legal aid foundation."

NTU's social service team "to protect underprivileged children and family welfare" was composed of 13 faculty members from the Department of Social Work. These teachers used clinical method and techniques, coupled with their sincere and persistent commitments to help the mentally or physically handicapped students to cope with their problems and to lead them to grow. Based on their commitment to the professionalism of social work and the development of social welfare policies, these faculty members are willing to provide probono work to uphold social justice, to defend human dignity and values, and to make voices heard for the underprivileged groups.
