  Another major focus at the anniversary celebration ceremony was the selection of NTU's outstanding alumni. The list of this year's nine winners are as follows: humanities/arts category: Mr. Guang Zhong Yu (graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages & Literature in 1954), Miss Wen-Yueh Lin (graduated from the Department of Chinese Literature in 1959), Mr. Shao-Jia Lyu (graduated from the Department of Psychology in 1983); academic category: Mr. Chen-shui Tsai (graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1957), Mr. Kwo-Ray Chu (graduated from the Department of Physics in 1965), Mr. Heng-Chao Chen (graduated from the Department of Law in 1966); business category: Mr. M.K. Tsai (graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1971), Mr. Johnny Shih (graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1974); and social service category: Mr. Chia-tung Lee (graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1961). These nine outstanding alumni received open commendation during the anniversary convocation. They were also invited to give lectures on the topic of "my learning and thinking process" for the NTU general education forum.By serving as guest speakers, these outstanding alumni shared their field of expertise and their success stories with the young generation of students who are currently enrolled at NTU.

  On top of these two major events, this year's anniversary celebration also abounded with series of activities. The Office of Research and Development hosted a show to parade the research achievements made by the NTU faculty. While the static content of the show consisted of an exhibition of posters, the dynamic contents were multifarious, including fluorescent fish, fluorescent pigs, LED street lamps, solar powered refrigerators, robotics, nano antibacterial soap, English teaching software, angiogenesis center, electric wheel chair with hand-wheel motor, etc., All these dynamic exhibits had research team members on site explaining their functions to the attendants. The arts/entertainment activities were also copious and diversified, including the "beauty of architecture" and "balcony concert" organized by the College of Liberal Arts, the inaugural ceremony of the Humanity Archives of the Main Library, and the Office for Art Promotion also put out programs like "a gathering for poetry recitation" and a "folk song concert". Campus tour guides included the NTU museum group, "exploring the secrets of the Fu Garden," "intelligent images and innovative lifestyle", and "obtain a historical perspective and appreciate art from the archives."

  Departmental and institutional activities included "the opening of Po Li Art Gallery and Fine Arts Exhibition by You-Jia Huang", "public announcement of the 2nd phase achievements of the advantaged focus areas en route to the top program".
