STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES

The Student Health Center was established in May 1966 with the approval Council of Administration. The goals of the center are:
(a) To promote student physical and mental health;
(b) To prevent and treat students illnesses.
All physicians are from the NTU Hospital and provide various medical services to the students and staffs on campus. Staff members also include nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, health educators and special technicians. The out-patient services, which are reimbursed by the National Health Insurance Service, have been in operation since August, 1995.
Health services provided:

Outpatient services

The office hours are from 9:10 to 11:30 am and 2:10 to 4:30 pm on weekdays. The registration time is from 8:20 to 11:30 am and 1:20 to 4:20 pm. The Center provides various medical services, including: Family Medicine , Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Otolaryngology, Gynecology, Dentistry and Simple Surgery. Patients can make appointments by phone or by internet and registration fees are free for students and staff workers of the university. Common blood tests, pap smear examination, dental scaling, abdominal sonography, physical therapy and plain x-ray studies are available.

Emergency care and referral services

If there is any emergency on campus, our medical staff will provide first aid on site and in our treatment room. There are medical staff on duty for emergency care during the daytime, and if necessary, the case can be transferred to NTU Hospital by ambulance for further care.

Student health examinations

The health checkup for freshmen is undertaken by the Student Health Center every year with the main support from the NTU Hospital. Students with significant disorders (such as: hypertension, heart disease, hepatic disease, pulmonary tuberculosis, proteinuria, etc.) will receive follow-up care by the center, and be provided with preventive medical consultation.

Health education activities

  1. Public lectures and activities for health promotion:The topics usually include: prevention of common health problems among freshmen; screening of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, breast cancer and cervical cancer; weight reduction class, and national education activities, etc.
  2. Training program for first aid: training classes are given every year to instruct students and staff in increasing their ability to provide first aid.Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) training classes ,which the military training courses also offer, to increase the ability in dealing with emergency situations.
  3. The Student Health Center provides free health related brochures and pamphlets. In addition, we provide health education information online.
